The Mansfield Fellowship Program is named after Mike Mansfield, who is regarded by some as perhaps one of the most notable statesmen/public service figures in the U.S. political sphere of the last 60 years, having served as a U.S. congressman from Montana, U.S. Senate majority leader and U.S. ambassador to Japan. President Jimmy Carter appointed Mansfield Ambassador to Japan in 1977, where he served longer than any other ambassador in history. From the Land of the Sunflake to Land of the Rising Sun
Capt. John Wright from the 348th Reconnaissance Squadron at Grand Forks Air Force Base, N.D., was recently selected to be part of the Mansfield Fellowship Program. The Mansfield Fellowship Program was established by the U.S. Congress in 1994 to build a corps of U.S. federal government employees with proficiency in the Japanese language and practical, firsthand knowledge about Japan and its government. Through their placements, Fellows develop networks of contacts in Japan and an understanding of the political, economic and strategic dimensions of the U.S.-Japan relationship. Medics from Grand Forks AFB & local hospital test readiness for Ebola threat during exercise
Altru Health Systems paramedics Brittany Gierszewski, Val McDonald and Chuck Baskerville prepare to transport, Master Sgt. Brian Fair, pseudo Ebola patient via ambulance from Grand Forks Air Force Base, N.D., to Altru Hospital Dec. 19, 2014. Medical personnel from both the 319th Medical Group and Altru Health Systems worked together during an Ebola Preparedness Exercise. As an outpatient facility, the base medical clinic would not hospitalize and test a suspected Ebola patient. Their job would be to identify a suspected patient, quickly place them in isolation for further assessment, and then coordinate with the North Dakota Department of Health and Altru for transport and further evaluation if it was deemed necessary. Furthermore, Altru’s ambulance service was designated by the North Dakota Department of Health as an approved crew for the transport of suspected Ebola patients the Northeastern region of the state.
