NWS certifies Grand Forks AFB as StormReady
Grand Forks Air Force Base was recently certified as StormReady by the National Weather Service. The StormReady program is designed to help arm communities with the communication and safety skills needed to save lives and property before and during a severe weather event. StormReady helps community leaders and emergency managers strengthen local safety programs through advanced planning, education and awareness. Grand Forks AFB is currently the only military installation certified as StormReady in the state of North Dakota and one of three bases designated as such in the Air Mobility Command. ‘Yikes! Is this turkey done?’
According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, salmonella infection is one of the most common types of food poisoning associated with eating improperly stored or cooked foods such as turkey, turkey dressing, chicken, or eggs. As a preventative measure the Defense Commissary Agency provided an informative article that helps Thanksgiving-meal cooks better answer the question of, ‘Yikes! Winter safety kit
A winter survival kit sits on display for others to see and use as a visual guide Nov. 14, 2012, at the 319th Air Base Wing Public Affairs Office on Grand Forks Air Force Base, N.D. The kit includes a fully-charged prepaid cell phone, a multi-tool and a portable GPS device that could be used to see road patterns such as curves during times of low visibility caused by thick fog or snow. It can also be used to determine your approximate distance and position from locations such as landmarks, cities or roads. Grand Forks AFB successfully wraps up 2012 CFC
A billboard with a red-filled thermometer displays the 100 percent completion of the $55,000 goal for the 2012 Combined Federal Campaign, Nov. 13, 2012, on Grand Forks Air Force Base, N.D. The billboard was placed near the east main entrance of the base, and was used to publicly track the installation’s progress during the six-week long fundraising event.
