Airman 1st Class Federaka Neal and Airman Terrance Anderson, the two Airmen charged in the Memorial Day shooting of Senior Airman Terence Murray in Grand Forks, were tried last week at Grand Forks Air Force Base by separate Air Force courts-martial.

Airman 1st Class Neal pleaded guilty in front of a military judge to aggravated assault with the intent to inflict grievous bodily harm, conspiracy to commit aggravated assault with a dangerous weapon, making a false official statement, reckless endangerment and three counts of impeding an investigation. Airman 1st Class Neal was found guilty by the military judge and was sentenced by the military judge to a dishonorable discharge from the Air Force, 17 years in jail, reduction in rank to Airman Basic (E-1) and forfeiture of all pay and allowances.

Airman Anderson was charged with attempted murder, conspiracy to commit aggravated assault with a dangerous weapon, reckless endangerment and four counts of impeding an investigation. Airman Anderson pleaded guilty in front of a military judge to aggravated assault with a dangerous weapon, reckless endangerment and four counts of impeding an investigation. The government elected to present evidence on the more serious charge of attempted murder, which included the lesser included offense of aggravated assault with the intent to inflict grievous bodily harm to a panel of military court members. The court members found him not guilty of attempted murder, but guilty of aggravated assault with the intent to inflict grievous bodily harm, in addition to the offenses he had already pleaded guilty to. The court members sentenced Airman Anderson to a dishonorable discharge from the Air Force, 15 years of jail, reduction to the rank of Airman Basic (E-1) and forfeiture of all pay and allowances.

Both Airmen will be transferred to a military confinement facility to serve their sentences.

"We have a very competent and capable military justice system designed to address the unique needs of the Air Force and protect the fundamental rights of the Airmen who were tried and convicted here," said Col. Diane Hull, commander of the 319th Air Refueling Wing.

"We will continue to take our military mission and role in the community seriously - we'll continue to do everything we can to produce outstanding Airmen and citizens for America," said Colonel Hull.
