This official Army photo shows Corey J. Rystad wearing the rank of specialist. Sgt. Rystad, of Red Lake Falls, MinnCorey J. Rystad, 20, of Red Lake Falls, Minn., was killed in combat while traveling on a patrol mission near Fallujah, Iraq, after an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle on Dec. 2, 2006. His child hood friend, Kurt Philion, honors Rystad’s memory by carrying a 3-foot by 5-foot American flag while running races with a T-shirt bearing an image of the soldier. Corey J. Rystad - A Soldier Remembered
