The trophy for the base commander’s annual firefighter challenge sits in the base gym Oct. 10, 2019, on Grand Forks Air Force Base, North Dakota. The challenge was part of National Fire Prevention Week, which was celebrated by the base community to bring more awareness to this year’s fire safety theme: “Not every hero wears a cape. First salute
Shortly after being commissioned as a second lieutenant, former Staff Sgt. Donna Tluczek returns a salute to her husband, Tech. Sgt. Pawel Tluczek. Sergeant Tluczek rendered the first enlisted salute from more than 8,000 miles away in Southwest Asia.
