Reflections of Chief Master Sergeants
Recalling his early memories of the chief master sergeants who left impressions of exemplary leadership and model airmanship, (Ret) Chief Master Sgt. Calvin Markham expressively described Chief Master Sgt. Roberts. “This 6’3” polar bear grip, crusty old chief master sergeant walks in the room, and he represented protection,” said Markham using his hands to depict bear paws. “He took care of his Airmen. 319th Security Forces Squadron Airmen endure sub-freezing temperatures to protect GFAFB
A stream of cars lulled through the front gate of Grand Forks AFB on March 7, 2018, passing by piles of melting snow and ice. The 319th Security Forces Squadron Airmen on guard took turns checking the drivers’ identification cards, making sure everyone was authorized before allowing them to pass. The temperature was a comparatively ‘warm’ 22 degrees, considering the base defenders endured a heavy snowstorm just days prior while most of the base was relieved from work for the day.

Imagine being doubted, criticized and talked down to by your friends, wingmen or supervisors for a decision you happily made and proudly shared. That is what happened to Airman 1st Class Nicholas and Etelyn Cash, who happened to get married during their technical training after knowing each other for two months.
