Unit: 319th Comptroller Squadron

Duty title: Financial Services Supervisor

Why is serving in the Air Force important to you?

I just want to serve my country and give back what has been given to me.

What moment or accomplishment as a Warrior of the North are you most proud of and why?

I am not sure if I can narrow this down to one thing, but I would say the missions and deployments I have been on throughout my career. Between these trips I have been responsible for a total of more than $5 million in cash without losing or miscounting a single penny. On one trip specifically, I was responsible for counting and transferring $3.5 million in cash to another location with very minimal security.

What is your favorite part of your job?

You don't know what to expect on a daily basis. Each customer that comes into our office has a different issue that you have to figure out and sometimes it takes sitting down and digging through a regulation to find the correct answer.

Who inspires you and why?

I think the person that inspires me the most was an old commander that I had back at Charleston Air Force Base, S.C., Lt. Col. Seung Paik. From day one of his change of command and taking over the 437th Comptroller Squadron, he made it clear that the most important part in any military member's life is their family -- including personal (blood) and work family. These were not just words for him because he would show it every single day. On numerous occasions he had my back when I was put into situations that should never have happened. He showed me what a true leader is and I will always continue to better myself to become one.

What's the first thing that made you think Grand Forks Air Force Base was a cool place other than the temperature or weather?

Grand Forks Air Force Base reminds me of back home. I come from a small town of right around 4,000 people and the closest town is about a 20-minute drive in any direction.
