Rank and name: Staff Sgt. Kory Boardman

Unit: 372nd Training Squadron, Detachment 27

Duty title: Field Training Detachment Instructor

Time in service: 9 years, 3 months

Why is serving in the Air Force important to you?
Traditions are very important to me. Both of my grandfathers served in the military. My grandfather, Dick Boardman served in the Army as a helicopter mechanic, and my other grandfather, Chuck Jorgensen, served in the Air Force during the Korean War, so I followed suit. Also I had always been interested in aviation so, I felt the Air Force was the best fit for me.

What moment or accomplishment as a Warrior of the North are you most proud of and why?
Being selected to be part of the team to set up two brand new units here at Grand Forks has been a great privilege. We helped set up the 9th Reconnaissance Wing, Detachment 1, which is now the 69th Reconnaissance Group and my current unit the 372nd Training Squadron, Detachment 27.

What is your favorite part of your job?
My favorite part of my job is using all my knowledge and experience with the Global Hawk program in the classroom setting and then seeing the reaction from the students when the "light bulb" comes on.

Who inspires you and why?
My family inspires me to be better every day. I was always taught work hard, tell the truth, and do what is right and everything else will fall into place. It's important to me to set a good example for my two boys so they can be productive members of society.

What's the first thing that made you think Grand Forks Air Force Base was a cool place other than the temperature or weather?
The first thing that made me think Grand Forks Air Force Base was a cool place was seeing a deer in my yard eating my tree. As an outdoorsman I enjoy watching the local wildlife around the base.
