1/13/2014 - GRAND FORKS AIR FORCE BASE, N.D. - Senior Airman Paul Black, 319th Logistics Readiness Squadron logistics planner, has been named the 2013 Air Mobility Command Logistics Readiness Airman of the Year.

"My squadron commander Major Hemphill, told me in person at the office," said Black. "Right after I told my wife and family about winning the award."

The focal point of Black's job is deployments, and anything deployment-related gets sent to his office before it goes to the squadrons for tasking. He also helps manage four other wing-level programs including support agreements for base facilities, war readiness materiel management, assisting with the base support plan and the Air Expeditionary Force Reporting Tool.

Black acknowledged the support of his leadership in receiving the award.

"I am thankful for my supervisor, Staff Sergeant Maurice Wheaton, who wrote the package," said Black.

"Senior Airman Black is great to work with, he is always highly motivated to accomplish the mission and truly a representation of the three P's: professionalism, proficiency and passion," said Wheaton, 319th LRS NCO-in-charge of plans and integration.

"My best trait that has helped me get to where I am is being a hard worker," said Black. "I like to make sure I do things right the first time and so I pay attention to detail."

This is the first Air Mobility Command award the Stone Lake, Wis., native has received, but he's also won several squadron and base-level awards including the 2013 "Razor Sharp," Airman of the Quarter award which set high standards amongst his peers.

"I don't see myself doing anything out of the ordinary," said Black. "I am just happy [to receive this] award."

Black will now compete in the same Logistics Readiness Airman category at the Air Force level.
