First and last name: Laura Sullivan

Unit: 319th Medical Operations Squadron

Official duty title: Office Administrator

Time on the job: 11 months

Hometown: New Ulm, Minn.

Why is serving as an Air Force civilian important to you?
Serving as a civilian is important to me because it allows me to continue to work closely with the military and support the mission. I have had the pleasure of working in various jobs where I am constantly learning. Working in the medical field I support the medical needs of the beneficiaries and ensure the health and readiness of our military personnel. I am proud to take care of our people and support the expeditionary mission.

What moment or accomplishment as a Warrior of the North are you most proud of and why?
I will never forget Grand Forks because this is where my husband and I were both reunited after being physically separated for two years. Thinking of the moment when my Tommy walked out of the terminal and held his daughter for the first time. Then two years later, I was delighted and thankful for having him here to hold his son at the hospital. Those are moments I will always treasure.

What is your favorite part of your job?
Interacting with my co-workers and patients is my favorite part of my job. My co-workers have great attitudes and are willing to help others to get the job done. I have been blessed to work with talented professional people. I also enjoy the patient interaction because I build a relationship and rapport with them.

Who or what inspires you and why?
Everyone I meet has impacted me in some way, shape or form but my husband and children inspire me to be the best person I can be. My family loves, supports, strengthens me on a daily basis. They provide the setting in which we grow and learn from each other as we go through life. They give me my greatest joy and happiness in life.

My husband, Staff Sgt. Thomas Sullivan, deserves most of the credit. He grounds me, keeps me sane, and makes me laugh every day.

What's the first thing that made you think Grand Forks Air Force Base was a cool place other than the temperature or weather?
Grand Forks is a great place to live because of the people and the outdoors. Since I've been here I have been blessed to work with great people in the 319th Civil Engineering Squadron and the 319th Medical Group. They have supported and looked out for me and my family. Another highlight of living here is definitely camping. I grew up camping in northern Minnesota and enjoy the state parks. Plus, I live close enough where I can attend University of Minnesota Gopher hockey games. Ski-U-Mah!
