Decisions….we all make them.

As Airmen, we are challenged to make good decisions everyday. This not only applies to our work, but also in our personal lives. The keys to making the right decisions are responsibility and judgment. The fundamental premise of the 0-0-1-3 campaign is to encourage responsibility and good judgment when you decide to enjoy an alcoholic beverage. As a slogan. 0-0-1-3 is guide to help us all make good decisions before we begin to drink. After all, most of us understand our decision-making ability is impaired when we drink.

As a leader, I expect my Airmen to exercise their best judgment when deciding to partake of alcoholic beverages. They are expected to make good decisions. Occasionally our Airmen make dangerously bad decisions and demonstrate poor judgment. When this happens, our Airmen are expected to take responsibility for their poor decisions.

To promote a culture of responsibility and judgment regarding alcohol we must hold our Airmen accountable when bad decisions are made. This often involves disciplinary action. But our responsibilities as Airmen do not end at holding members accountable. We must ensure we continue to mentor, encourage and advise our Airmen who have made poor decisions to help them improve their decision-making ability. After all, they are still valuable members of our team…and we still count on them every day to make the right decisions at work, at home and while deployed.

Whether you fly or fix airplanes, provide security or process performance reports, your country, your Air Force, your wing, your unit and your comrades-in-arms count on you using your best judgment and act responsibly when you decide to drink.

Don’t let us down.
