Thank you – whoever you are Published Jan. 4, 2007 By Rita Freeberg Twining Middle School teacher GRAND FORKS AFB, ND -- I am a civilian who has been teaching at Twining School on the base since 1987. Jan. 2, I had a flat tire and limped my car to the shoppette where I saw the tire was almost coming off the rim. No one was working there who could help me out; when we tried the auto skills center, there was no answer. I tried a few of my friends here on base, but people were out or hadn't returned from the holidays yet. Then I started the job of getting the spare tire, jack and tire iron out and reading all the instructions for changing the tire. A very helpful young Airman stopped and helped me change the tire, and even aired up the spare with his own equipment. I didn't catch his name, and he wouldn't take any money, but I would love to thank him again. I think even more importantly than that, I would like to say that I have always noticed the exceptional helpfulness of the military staff on base. Just a few weeks ago, I lifted the hood on my car to check on the fluid levels. I didn't see anyone around, so I was a bit surprised when I heard someone from across the dark parking lot ask, "Do you need any help, Ma'am?" I am very thankful for the caring shown by the individuals here at the Grand Forks Air Force Base.
