Intramural sports in the Air Force serve many different purposes, from raising morale to keeping Airmen in good physical shape. On Grand Forks Air Force Base, Senior Airman Jennifer Frerichs, 319th Force Support Squadron sports director, ensures athletic operations run smoothly for all Warriors of the North.

Organizing meetings, answering questions, creating schedules and coordinating contracts are just a few of the main necessities of Frerich's job.

"It makes me feel good to be able to provide base patrons with fun and morale-raising opportunities," she said. "We're always kept busy with activities for the Airmen."

The Nebraska native joined the Air Force with hopes to learn something different and travel the world. She was originally stationed at Tyndall AFB, Fla., and hopes to expand her travels as she is in the process of applying for re-training as a flight attendant.

Regardless of what job Frerichs might have, she would love to be stationed or at least make a visit overseas.

"I would definitely love to visit Italy," she said. "It would be amazing to see the sights, taste the wine, and take some boat tours."

In the meantime, Airman Frerichs is currently pursuing a bachelor's degree while taking online classes at Ashford University in Iowa. Ultimately, her dream job is to someday be a registered nurse. Frerich's experiences both throughout school and on the job have taught valuable lessons.

"As you gain experience, you learn the importance of taking care of other Airmen," said Frerichs. "It is helpful to put yourself out there and get involved in as many ways possible to learn new things."

Not only is Airman Frerichs a sports director, she is also a competitor and a fan. Frerichs plays intramural softball and volleyball and supports the Pittsburgh Steelers, New York Yankees and Los Angeles Lakers; teams with a rich history of experience and success.
