You might be hard-pressed to find an Airman with a more optimistic approach to life than Senior Airman Jersun Amos, 319th Communications Squadron High Frequency Global Communications Systems operator.

"You can create a good environment everywhere you go as long as you keep your head out of trouble and connect with the right people," said Amos. "Life is too short to take too serious."

If listing volunteering as his favorite activity wasn't unique enough, the derivation of his first name makes up the slack.

"It combines the name Jeremy with Sunday, the day on which I was born," said Amos. "It's something my parents came up with. Most people just call me 'Jay' because it's simple."

Life hasn't always been simple for Airman Amos, as he lost nearly everything in fire after a lightning storm caused broken telephone wires to ignite and engulf his home when he was 18 years old.

"I've been able to make my life a better one through all of these things happening," said Amos. "You have to stay positive regardless of the situation."

Amos is content with his current situation; one he now realizes was almost very different.

"I was ready to sign with the Marines," he said. "My dad talked me out of it, and into joining the Air Force. I'm happy with my decision and plan to pursue my education."

Along with working towards an education, Airman Amos also enjoys both working with and for others. This desire paid off as he was awarded Airman of the Year in 2009 and ranked Below the Zone in 2010 while working with the 51st Communications Squadron at Osan Air Base, South Korea.

"I liked spearheading the tutoring program at Osan to try and teach the Korean students to speak English," said Amos. "My favorite part of volunteering was visiting the orphanages where we could go out and deliver donate food and presents and hang out with the kids for a day. There isn't any specific motivation behind volunteering for me; I just like to help people."

Aside from volunteering in his free time, Amos also likes to workout at the gym and play basketball to stay in shape.
