The Youth Center here hosted a Prom Prep Academy on March 29 at Liberty Square.

About 30 teenagers, volunteers and guests attended the three hour event designed to allow the girls to exchange dresses and to learn how to prepare themselves for prom.

"This gave the teenager's ideas of how to do their make-up, hair and nails, without paying someone else to do it," said Heather Holmes, Prom Prep Academy coordinator.

Teenage girls were asked to bring in a dress or non-perishable food item in order to take part in the event.

"The community really stepped up to help donate dresses and canned goods from Airmen to alumni," said Jake Lindquist, the teen coordinator at the base's Youth Center.

The teens were treated to a makeover that included manicures, hair styling and tutorials on make- up thanks to the help of fourteen volunteers.

The event drew positive feedback from those prepping for their school prom.

"I'm so happy about coming to the event and learning different beauty techniques," said 14-year-old Olivia Burch.

The Prom Prep Academy directly supports the Air Force's Comprehensive Airman Fitness Program, which designed to build and sustain a thriving and resilient Air Force Community that fosters mental, physical, social and spiritual fitness. The academy focused on the social pillar.
