Jan. 16 - Grand Forks AFB Blizzard Update

  • Published
Grand Forks Air Force Base officials are requiring only storm- and mission-essential personnel to report for duty as normal Jan. 16 due to blizzard conditions hitting northeastern North Dakota.

All other Grand Forks AFB personnel will not be required to report for duty, and on-base and off-base schools will be closed.

The dining facility and fitness center, however, will remain open.

Base personnel are reminded to call 747-SNOW (7669) for the latest weather-related updates.

A blizzard warning remains in effect across the region until 6 p.m. Jan. 16. According to the warnings, winds from the north will continue from 30 to 40 mph, with gusts as high as 55 mph.

The winds could cause power outages and visibility is expected to drop to zero on the roadways.

The North Dakota Department of Transportation has issued a no-travel advisory on I-29 from the Canadian border to the South Dakota state line, and from Jamestown to the Minnesota state line on I-94. State officials are also advising "no travel" on Highway 2.
