David Dobrydney 319th Air Base Wing Public Affairs GRAND FORKS AIR FORCE BASE, N.D. -- Fifteen contestants showed off their vocal talents Aug. 22 at the annual AMC Icon competition here. Approximately 200 military community members turned out to cheer for the winner, who will represent the base at the main AMC Icon competition at Scott Air Force Base, Ill., for a chance to join the Air Force entertainment troupe Tops in Blue. Col. Paul Bauman, 319th Air Base Wing commander, praised the performers for sharing their vocal talents with songs ranging from rap to blues to doo wop. "It says something that these 15 people can get up and entertain you in very different ways," said Col. Paul Bauman, 319th Air Base Wing commander, to the audience. First prize went to Senior Airman Andrew Hicks, who received a standing ovation for his rendition of "So High" by John Legend. This is the third year in a row Hicks has won the competition. "Initially I wasn't going to do it," he said afterward, "but my wife really wanted me to do it, that's why I had her on stage with me." Second prize went to Senior Airman Dominic Robertson, and third prize was awarded to 2nd Lt. Nicque Robinson. The other competitors were: · Nate Bennett · Staff Sgt.
