The Warriors of the North will host a special guest Aug. 20 for this year's Summer Bash.

Professional athlete and former Dallas Cowboys running back Herschel Walker played professionally for 12 seasons in the National Football League, and won the Memorial Heisman Trophy in 1982 while competing as a college football running back for the University of Georgia Bulldogs.  Walker will be the special guest speaker at this year's Summer Bash, the base's largest annual base-wide summer event, designed to boost morale and esprit de corps.

"We are extremely excited to host Herschel Walker at this year's Summer Bash," said 1st Lt. Garrett Frisby, 319th Force Support Squadron sustainment services flight. "As a wing and as FSS, it's a great honor to host such an accomplished individual, with such an inspiring story to back it all up."

Frisby said Airmen can expect to see Walker at his booth from 8:30 to 11 a.m. where he will be available for pictures and autographs. Afterward, he will be helping to judge the grilling competition and the show-n'-shine car show. He will also contribute to the closing remarks at the end of the day.

Walker's visit has generated much excitement with Airmen on the base, but perhaps no one has more reasons to be excited about the visit than Staff Sgt. Luis Loza Gutierrez, 319th Comptroller Squadron.

Loza Gutierrez said he, like any other true football fan, would be excited to meet the player who is considered by many the best college football running back of all time, but he said the reasons for his excitement are more personal.

"When I think of Herschel Walker, I think of my family's tradition of watching the Dallas Cowboys play," he said. "It's a tradition that's been enjoyed by four generations, and it's provided my family with a lot of good memories."
