69th RG crowned Intramural Softball Champs Published Aug. 25, 2015 By Airman 1st Class Ryan Sparks 319th Air Base Wing Public Affairs GRAND FORKS AIR FORCE BASE, N.D. -- Airmen here competed to be crowned the Intramural Softball Champions August 24, 2015. Airmen from the 69th Reconnaissance Group and the 319th Communications Squadron squared off in the championship game. The game was a defensive struggle until the last couple of innings when the 69th RG was able to compile four runs. The 319th CS had a chance to make a comeback at the top of the seventh inning, but they were only able to muster one run. The 69th RG had a record of nine wins and three losses during the regular season and won both of their playoff games en route to the championship. Staff Sgt. Jason Richmond, 69th Maintenance Squadron quality assurance inspector, was the head coach for the 69th RG team. Richmond said the championship game was a challenge because they had lost to the CS team twice during the regular season. The 319th CS had a record of seven wins and 5 losses during the regular season and won two playoff games only to come up short in the championship game. "I know that we as a team were sure proud to play against the RG," said 319th CS team member Staff Sgt. Travis Foster. "They are a tremendous group of athletes and they showed the utmost respect to us and the game while providing a truly enjoyable level of competition. Intramurals are always a time to appreciate due to the sportsmanship and respect that we all show each other." For the second straight year, the 69th RG will have their names placed on the Intramural Softball Champion trophy that will be displayed in the fitness center here.
