Grand Forks AFB kicks off Military Saves Month Published Feb. 2, 2016 By Airman 1st Class Ryan Sparks 319th Air Base Wing Public Affairs GRAND FORKS AIR FORCE BASE, N.D. -- The Airman & Family Readiness Center here kicked off Military Saves Month today. The Department of Defense designated the week of Feb. 22-27, as Military Saves Week 2016. However, the A&FRC here made the decision to extend the campaign to cover the entire month of February. Tom Slaughter, 319th Air Base Wing community readiness consultant, said that by extending the week it allows the events to be spaced out and allows people to have a better chance of attending events. "We're trying to get the wing financially fit," said Slaughter. There will be six classes offered as a "lunch-n-learn" to allow for Airmen to enjoy their lunch and bring their spouses and children if necessary. The biggest event will be the Military Saves Week Financial Fair scheduled for Feb. 25, 2016 at Liberty Square. Slaughter said there will be information available on a variety of financial topics and other services offered to the Warriors of the North. This event will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The First Sergeant's Council is scheduled to provide burgers and hotdogs, and the Community Action Information Board and Integrated Delivery System are scheduled to host and wing potluck during the financial fair. According to Slaughter, the goal of Military Saves Week is to inform Airmen of the services available to keep them financially fit. "People get scared when you start talking about money," said Slaughter. "We want them to know that our doors are always open." All classes will be held at the A&FRC and are as follows: -Feb. 2-Marriage and Money, 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. -Feb. 4-Financial Open House (food, door prizes and bingo), 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. -Feb. 9-Analyzing Your Credit Score/Credit Card Myths, 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. -Feb. 11- Understanding Your Spouse's LES, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. -Feb. 16-Budget Boot Camp, 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. -Feb. 26-Thrift Savings Plan (TSP), 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. For more information, contact the A&FRC at 701-747-3241.
