Claims service moves to Ohio Published March 22, 2007 By Tech Sgt. Kimberly Echols 319th Air Refueling Wing Judge Advocate Office GRAND FORKS AIR FORCE BASE, N.D. -- The Air Force Judge Advocate General's Corps has consolidated the processing of personnel claims to a single location, enabling Air Force employees to file claims online and electronically submit all required documents to the Air Force Claims Service Center (AFCSC) in Ohio. Personnel claims involve loss or damage of household goods and privately owned vehicles during shipment or storage at government expense and loss or damage to personal property located in government quarters or other authorized locations incident to government service. Employees can complete the claims process from home after a one-time login on any government computer. As employees complete their claims online, customer service is available over the web or from the AFCSC by phone. The online filing system will accelerate the processing of the claim and allow for quicker payment. The pink form (DD Form 1840/1840R, entitled "Joint Statement of Loss or Damage at Delivery/Notice of Loss and/or Damage,") will continue to be submitted within 70 days from the date of delivery to the local base legal office. After that, the claim itself must be submitted directly to the AFCSC within two years from the date of the incident. Grand Forks Air Force Base began filing claims electronically Feb. 15. For general information, see the AFCSC's public website at http://legalassistance.law.af.mil/claims or call the base legal office at 747-3607. Access the center's website at https://claims.jag.af.mil to file a claim, or call them at 1-877-754-1212 or DSN 986-8044 with questions.
