The base conducted a 100 percent vehicle inspection at the main gate here June 29.

The inspection was ordered by wing leadership to help curb a recent drunken driving trend, but also served a force protection role.

The 319th Security Forces Squadron performed the inspection on the vehicles of all active members entering the base. In addition to vehicle inspections, breathalyzers and mandatory urinalysis were required for a specific period.

Out of about 100 people who were checked at the gate, only one or two were questionable, but still passed the breathalyzer that was given, according to the 319 SFS.

"This was one of many initiatives undertaken by the wing to ensure the safety and security of our community," said Maj. Resti Andin, 319 SFS commander. "It focused not only on force protection (through the vehicle inspection program), but to serve as a deterrent against drinking and driving."
