GFAFB AFNet migration begins in June Published May 19, 2010 By Communications Focal Point 319th Communications Squadron GRAND FORKS AIR FORCE BASE, N.D. -- Active Directory Exchange (ADX) is part of an ongoing service-wide effort to transform cyber operations and establish a central Air Force Network under the direction of a single commander. By consolidating Major Command networks and centralizing services, the Air Force can significantly increase the level of support it provides the war fighter, while at the same time reducing operational costs. Grand Forks Air Force Base is scheduled to start migrating into the AFNet June 18 and work is expected to take a month to complete. User impact will be minimal and in most cases transparent. The most visible change will be: · The designation of a new e-mail address - military, civil service, and contractors will keep for the duration of their career, employment, or affiliation with the Air Force · The migration replaces the old first.last@grandforks.af.mil e-mail address with a standard first.last@us.af.mil e-mail address allowing central management of these accounts. · Around the clock access to e-mail and network services such as the AF Portal, Air Force Personnel Center, Defense Finance Accounting Service, and other sites requiring authentication. · Airmen who are temporary duty, deployed, or in permanent change in station status can communicate and manage personal information through any Air Force common-access-card enabled computer · Migration into the AFNet also effectively eliminates the past practice of deactivating and creating accounts, and immediately makes Airmen more productive and effective In preparation for the migration, we encourage you to reduce the size of your mailbox by deleting unnecessary files and moving others to personal folders.
