Col. Don Shaffer, 319th Air Refueling Wing commander, along with Ms. Cheryl Anderson, the Airmen and Family Readiness Center director and the Warriors of the North, recognized the Wing's littlest heroes during the Little Heroes Ceremony, June 16 at the Community Activity Center.

The Little Hero award recognizes the support and service of the children of active-duty parents, and the recipients were nominated by their parents for their contributions to their success in the military.

"The children's support and sacrifice made it possible for their parents to continue their service to our great nation and the United States Air Force," said Master Sgt. Karlyn Beadles, 319th Force Support Squadron and the master of ceremony.

"Being a parent, I know how much the kids actually sacrifice, you all do too (to the crowd of parents), you know mom, dad, whoever, not showing up for birthdays and all the fun stuff. Today is to recognize the kids and what they go through dealing with parents who go and defend our nation," said Colonel Shaffer before awarding each recipient with their awards.

Each child received a certificate and a silver medallion in the shape of North Dakota with Sven, the Warrior of the North icon on the front and on the back is a thank you statement from Colonel Shaffer.

The ceremony recognized more than 50 little heroes.
