Grand Forks Airmen compete in wing's 6th Annual Triathlon Published July 21, 2010 By Staff Sgt. R. Michael Longoria 319th Air Refueling Wing Public Affairs GRAND FORKS AIR FORCE BASE, N.D. -- Forty-one Airmen and members of the base community participated in 319th Air Refueling Wing's 6th Annual Triathlon July 17 here. All participants completed the triathlon, which consisted of a 400-meter swim, a 12.2 mile bike ride and a 5k run for the adult and team competitors and a 200-meter swim, six mile bike ride and a 5k run for the youth competitors. "The hardest part of the triathlon for me was transitioning to the run," said 2nd Lt. Miles H. Ryan, 319th Civil Engineer Squadron. "My calves started cramping as soon as I got off the bike and it took a little while before I got my running legs under me. I loved the triathlon. It was my first, but won't be my last." All competitors received a participation certificate with their completion time on it. Medals were also handed out to the first and second place finishers from each category. Listed by category, the first and second place finishers are as follows: Youth Female Age 11-13 1st place with a time of 48 minutes and 12 seconds, Danielle Castilleja 2nd place with a time of 56 minutes and 52 seconds, Emmery Ballard Youth Male Age 11-13 1st place with a time of 57 minutes and 37 seconds, Brandon Baugh Youth Female Age 14-17 1st place with a time of 46 minutes and five seconds, Elizabeth Bradford 2nd place with a time of 47 minutes and 28 seconds, Emily Hicks Youth Male Age 14-17 1st place with a time of 42 minutes and 39 seconds, Michael White Adult Female Age 18-19 1st place with a time of 1 hour, 52 minutes and 57 seconds, Colleen Concannon Adult Female Age 20-29 1st place with a time of 1 hour, 20 minutes and 18 seconds, Auralee Strege 2nd place with a time of 1 hour, 20 minutes and 53 seconds, Kirsten Swenson Adult Male Age 20-29 1st place with a time of 1 hour, 13 minutes and 49 seconds, Lieutenant Ryan 2nd place with a time of 1 hour, 16 minutes and 57 seconds, Nick Reynolds Adult Female Age 30-39 1st place with a time of 1 hour and 26 minutes, Amy Blanton 2nd place with a time of 1 hour, 37 minutes and 11 seconds, Darla Baugh Adult Male Age 30-39 1st place with a time of 1 hour, 21 minutes and 48 seconds, Capt. "We could not have done this event without the help of our 58 volunteers and the fitness center staff," said Staff Sgt. Faith M. Walker, 319th Force Support Squadron. "Their support was crucial to the success of this event. The Warriors of the North helped pull this event off in style."
