The Grand Forks Air Force Base Spouses' Club and Family Advocacy concluded a donation drive for the Community Violence Intervention Center of Grand Forks, N.D., Oct. 20 with a formal presentation of the donated items to Julie Christianson, chair of the Grand Forks AFB domestic violence collaboration committee, at the Community Activities Center, here.

More than 500 items were donated, totaling more than $1,000 of needed goods.

"October is domestic violence awareness month and the spouses' club along with family advocacy, wanted to help out a community agency who works every day with survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault," said Capt. Daphne Brewton, 319th Medical Operations Squadron and the base family advocacy officer.

The organizations handed out lists of items needed to members of the base community earlier this month and collected the items at the Base Exchange and the Commissary.

"This was our first year doing a donation drive like this and it was a lot of fun," said Captain Brewton. "It's likely that this drive will be held again in the future."

Donated items include household cleaners, hygiene products, diapers and winter clothing for children.

"Thank you very much," said Ms. Christianson after receiving the donation. "This means a lot to the families of Grand Forks."
