Grand Forks civic leader "deploys" Published Oct. 7, 2011 By Public Affairs Air Mobility Command GRAND FORKS AIR FORCE BASE, N.D. -- Grand Forks resident Donald F. Fisk participated in the U.S. Air Force's Air Mobility Command's Civic Leader Conference at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, N.J., Sept. 27- 29. Mr. Fisk joined 16 other civic leaders from across the United States at the U.S. Air Force Expeditionary Center to receive briefings and hands-on demonstrations to give them an understanding of what it takes to prepare Airmen to deploy to anywhere in the world. "We were exposed to the mission of AMC and the Expeditionary Center," Mr. Fisk said. "This tour enhanced our education about the Air Force and gave us the ability to share and explain to the community what the Air Force does. "I realize that the flying mission is important to the Air Force, but there is also so much more when it comes to supporting the mission," according to Mr. Fisk. Fisk participated in the Mine Resistance Ambush Protected Vehicle egress trainer, live-fire munitions training, and observed a convoy operations demonstration. At the end of the conference, the civic leaders met with the AMC Commander, Gen. Raymond E. Johns, Jr., to discuss current and future topics regarding AMC and their local communities. The AMC Civic Leader Conference is a two-year program, and participants are respected community leaders. The program provides an opportunity for civic leaders to develop a relationship with the commander and works to increase the understanding and cooperation between the civilian community and the Air Force. The participating civic leaders meet with the AMC commander every six months--a total of four times - first at Headquarters AMC at Scott AFB, Ill., and three times at other AMC bases. The previous Civic Leader Conference was held at McConnell AFB, Kan., where the focus was on AMC's air refueling mission. This conference was the third of four conferences for the current civic leader group.
