You pick: Healthy options survey Published Oct. 17, 2011 By Airman 1st Class Derek VanHorn 319th Air Base Wing Public Affairs GRAND FORKS AIR FORCE BASE, N.D. -- A newly implemented team wants to provide healthier on-base eating options and needs your help. The Military Nutritional Environmental Assessment Tool team is sending out a 16-question email survey Oct. 18 to get the community involved. The survey also can be found here. "First we have to consider what people actually want to eat versus what is healthy," said Jennifer Haugen, 319th Medical Operations Squadron health promotion registered dietitian. "We didn't want to do an overhaul, but rather find out what people are interested in and find healthy options from there." The team kicked off the health initiative by surveying and assessing the strengths and identifying potential target areas to improve healthy eating practices at 18 on-base organizations that offered food or drinks, Haugen said. The team is chaired by Lt. Col. Sean Patterson, 319th Mission Support Group deputy commander, and is represented by personnel from the Defense Commissary Agency, the fitness center, dining facility, shoppette, golf course, and the 319th Force Support Squadron marketing department. Many healthy changes have already taken place throughout the year, including the introduction of half-sized salads and the option of swapping out your fried side with steamed veggies at J.R. Rockers Café, Haugen added. "People are a product of their environment," she said."If we begin to offer healthy options conveniently, it can make a difference for all."
