Grand Forks Air Force Base hosts safety day Published Jan. 27, 2012 By Tim Flack 319th Air Base Wing Public Affairs GRAND FORKS AIR FORCE BASE, N.D. -- Airmen at Grand Forks gathered Friday morning to conduct a safety focus day to highlight safety practices and procedures, sound operational risk management and ways to enhance safety and reduce risk on and off duty. It was part of an Air Mobility Command-wide initiative directed by commander Gen. Raymond E. Johns Jr. "This is an opportune time as we come off the holiday 'slow' period to refocus our attention and reinvigorate a safety mindset," General Johns stated in a letter to the command's leaders. General Johns directed that AMC operations and training be limited on safety focus day, affording Airmen time to focus on mishap trends and the need to constantly maintain safety focus in day-to-day air mobility operations. AMC officials expect that the training will help promote positive trends in terms of complacency, attention to detail and adherence to standards. In addition, they hope it will also highlight key issues requiring the command's attention to continue safe and effective mission accomplishment. Master Sgt. Kimberly Spinner of the 18th Air Force Public Affairs contributed to this report.
