Mosquito fogging to begin on GFAFB Published April 5, 2012 319th Civil Engineering Squadron Pest Management Section GRAND FORKS AIR FORCE BASE, N.D. -- The early arrival of warm spring weather brings an unwelcome guest: Mosquitoes. The 319th Civil Engineering Squadron Pest Management Section will begin fogging once mosquito surveillance data allows chemical control in compliance with state and federal requirements. This article serves as notification that mosquito fogging will begin May 1, 2012. Mosquito fogging hours are between 7 p.m. and 11 p.m. Fogging will occur, weather permitting, two to three times per week. Although Monday through Friday are normal fogging days, it is possible that fogging may be conducted on weekends. Please note that rain or winds in excess of 10 mph will cancel fogging activities. It is recommended that occupants stay indoors during mosquito fogging operations. Children should avoid following the fogging truck and playing in the fog. If a driver sees children who are not following these guidelines, the area will not be sprayed. If outside your housing unit and you see the fogging truck approaching, please go indoors or stay inside your vehicle until the truck as passed. This year the base will be using a new mosquito fogging chemical called Kontrol 4-4. Additional information will be sent out regarding the aerial spray. As always - remember to use an insect repellent containing DEET.
