In 1962, President John F. Kennedy signed Public Law 87-726 designating May 15 as Peace Officers' Memorial Day, and the week in which May 15 falls as National Police Week. Base residents were treated to an open house at the base exchange, competed against each other in a land navigation course, battled through a Warrior Challenge and went to war on the paintball and golf courses, among other activities. The squadron also hosted a solemn retreat ceremony, in which Senior Master Sgt. Mark Cantrell read the names of military and civilian law enforcement personnel who've paid the ultimate sacrifice. Tech. Sgt. Christopher M. Stokes, Police Week coordinator, said the activities allowed Security Forces to showcase what they do, while honoring the fallen. Results: Land Navigation: A team comprised of Airman Michael M. Montoya, Staff Sgt. Diego E. Cardona Garcia and Staff. Sgt. James E. Mcintyre took first place. Paintball Tournament: The 319th Logistics Readiness Squadron emerged victorious, beating the host Security Forces team. Golf Tournament: The winning team was comprised of Chief Master Sgt. Ed Keller, Phil Barfield, and Gabe and Jeff Mlidzi. Click here to view the photo slideshow recap of National Police Week at Grand Forks.
