USAF captain to compete in international powerlifting Published June 5, 2012 By Airman 1st Class Derek VanHorn 319th Air Base Wing Public Affairs GRAND FORKS AIR FORCE BASE, N.D. -- A U.S. Air Force pilot will carry his weightlifting talents to Stockholm, Sweden, to compete in the International Powerlifting Classics Powerlifting World Cup scheduled for June 11-17, 2012. Capt. Chris Marron, who's currently working on an exchange tour with the Royal Canadian Air Force, will test his weight in the powerlifting division. The event he'll be participating in consists of measuring the combined total weight of the bench press, squat and deadlift of each participant. Weighing in at about 204 pounds, Marron qualified for the IPC World Cup after winning the Canadian National Championship in April. Marron was born in London, Ontario, grew up in Clearwater, Fla., graduated from the U.S. Air Force Academy in 2004, and is currently stationed in Winnipeg, Canada. He picked up powerlifting more than 15 years ago and has found many benefits from this acquired talent. "I find it to be a great competitive outlet that also meets the U.S. Air Force's value of physical fitness," said Marron, who will be representing Canada, the United States, the U.S. Air Force and the Royal Canadian Air Force in Sweden. "Weightlifting helped develop my confidence at a young age and provides a great opportunity to meet like-minded individuals in both the military and the civilian world."
