Jim Simons, North Dakota organization president, spoke to the Grand Forks Air Force Base community during an open meeting on the base June 14, 2012. Simons explained the benefits of the AFA and how it implements the decisions of it members in reference to problems and possible solutions in the Air Force. Simon added that the AFA also helps the community by promoting Airman morale and readiness through various programs. "It's good to have a solid strong voice to advocate for aerospace," said Angela J. Vasser, acting president of the AFA, Red River Valley chapter and civilian employee on Grand Forks. Scholarships are among some of the products AFA is pushing out to those who deserve to be recognized. These benefits are shared with not only active duty personnel, but with spouses, teachers and with those going through the Reserve Officer Training Corps program, said Vasser. AFA is an independent, non-profit, civilian, veterans' organization and is open to all veterans, ranks, and service branches. Its mission is to educate the public about the role of aerospace power in the defense of the nation, advocate aerospace power and a strong national defense, and support the U.S. Air Force, the Air Force family and aerospace education. Vasser said she's currently looking to recruit new members for her chapter. Contact her at 701-362-4351 for more information.
