Exchange officials announce birthday celebration, grade program Published July 13, 2012 GRAND FORKS AIR FORCE BASE, N.D. -- Army and Air Force Exchange Service officials have announced plans to celebrate the organization's 117th birthday and a program that rewards base youth for good grades. "To say that this benefit has been around for 117 years is a testament to the loyalty of generations of military shoppers," said the Exchange's Main Store Manager Pat Fields. "July 25 is our annual opportunity to celebrate and thank them for making the Exchange their first choice." Grand Forks AAFES facilities will mark the occasion July 25 with a birthday cake and children's activities at the Main Exchange from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. AAFES Express customers can receive free 20- and 30-ounce fountain drinks and 20-ounce coffees until 1:17 p.m. The AAFES website, www.shopmyexchange.com, will be offering a one-day sale on hundreds of products and beginning July 20, customers can also register to win two iPads to be given away at 1:17 p.m. Finally, shoppers can save 17 cents per gallon when using their Military Star card to purchase fuel at the Express July 25-27. Besides providing a financial benefit to military families, AAFES officials here also want to see military children succeed in school. Under the You Made the Grade program, children who receive a report card with an overall "B" average or better can pick up an array of free and discounted products. "Military students who excel in the classroom despite multiple moves and deploying parents deserve to be recognized," said Fields. "While good grades are their own reward, this program recognizes the hard work and dedication required of pupils at the head of the class." Now in its 12th year, rewards include a free Burger King hamburger kids meal, magazine and even a complimentary haircut. Students can also register for a drawing to win a $2,000, $1,500 or $500 Exchange gift card. To receive a "You Made the Grade" booklet, eligible students must present a valid military ID and proof of an overall "B" or better average to the Grand Forks Exchange. Students may receive one coupon package for every qualifying report card, but may enter the gift card drawing only once per grading period.
