Grand Forks Air Force Base picks its AMC Icon Published Aug. 17, 2012 By Airman 1st Class Zachiah Roberson 319th Air Base Wing Public Affairs GRAND FORKS AIR FORCE BASE, N.D. -- Thirteen military community vocalists participated in this year's Grand Forks Air Force Base Air Mobility Command Icon completion here Aug. 16, 2012. Senior Airman Marshall Merriweather, 319th Logistics Readiness Squadron, earned first place, followed by Airman 1st Class Andrew Hicks, 319th Medical Operations Squadron, who took second, and Senior Airman Bryce Pagel, 319th Contracting Flight, who finished third. In addition to receiving a cash prize, Merriweather will represent the base at the AMC Icon finals at Scott AFB, Ill. If he wins, Merriweather will have an interview for a part in the world-renowned Air Force Tops in Blue. "It was a wonderful atmosphere with an amazing audience, I had so much fun," said Hicks. "The crowd was very interactive with me and it was a blast." Merriweather echoed the thoughts of Hicks later that night. "This is a great event, when the crowd gets into your music it is an indescribable feeling of joy," said Merriweather. "I encourage anyone who wants to sing to try this event." Col. Tim Bush, 319th Air Base Wing commander, presented the prizes to the winners. "Thanks to all of the people who came out tonight to support these Airmen," Bush said. "And thanks to those who competed today." The other contestants for this year's Grand Forks AMC Icon were: Chester Carnevale, 319th Operations Support Squadron Senior Airman Susan Davis, 319th Air Base Wing/Wing Staff Agencies Airman 1st Class John Farrar, Logistics Readiness Squadron Staff Sgt. Sarah McElhenny, 319th Contracting Flight Senior Airman Whitney Montoya, 319th Security Forces Airman 1st Class Micah Thomas, 319th Logistics Readiness Squadron Staff Sgt. Shawn Spence, 319th Operations Support Squadron
