Grand Forks supports evacuated aircraft Published Oct. 29, 2012 By Staff Sgt. David Dobrydney 319th Air Base Wing Public Affairs GRAND FORKS AIR FORCE BASE, N.D. -- Seven KC-10 Extender refueling aircraft of the 305th Air Mobility Wing arrived here Oct. 28 following evacuation from Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, N.J. The aircraft were evacuated in advance of Hurricane Sandy, which is expected to batter the East Coast this week. The Warriors of the North were quick to set up support structures for the 60-plus Airmen who arrived. "The [Logistics Readiness Squadron] provided vehicles, we've maxed out base lodging," said Maj. Chad Bowden, 319th Operations Support Squadron director of operations. Bowden added the Dining Facility is also prepared to change their opening hours based on when the aircrews are cleared to return to New Jersey. The aircraft are expected to remain here until Wednesday or Thursday. "[They'll stay] until the storm is gone," Bowden said.
