Free 2012 tax assistance Published Jan. 9, 2013 By Airman 1st Class Zachiah Roberson 319th Air Base Wing Public Affairs GRAND FORKS AIR FORCE BASE, N.D. -- The Tax Center here will be open to file your taxes at no expense beginning Feb. 5. The Tax Center, located on the north side of the Airman & Family Readiness Center, will be staffed with volunteers from every squadron as well as civilians. Volunteers will have completed a week of training with an Internal Revenue Service representative before operating in the Tax Center. "TaxWise", the software provided by the IRS which is used at the Tax Center, is designed to streamline the preparation process and manage a large number of returns. The center operates from 7:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., Tuesday through Thursday each week. Services will end Apr. 11. According to the official MyPay website, W-2 Forms will be electronically available Jan. 24 for Air Force active duty members. Customers should make sure they bring the following information to assist in the preparation of their tax return: Proof of identification Social Security Cards for you, your spouse and dependents and/or a Social Security Number verification letter issued by the Social Security Administration Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN) assignment letter for you, your spouse and dependents, if applicable Proof of foreign status, if applying for an ITIN Birth dates for you, your spouse and dependents on the tax return Wage and earning statement(s) Form W-2, W-2G, 1099-R, from all employers Interest and dividend statements from banks (Forms 1099) A copy of last year's federal and state returns if available Proof of bank account routing numbers and account numbers for Direct Deposit, such as a blank check Total paid for daycare provider and the daycare provider's tax identifying number (the provider's Social Security Number or the provider's business Employer Identification Number), if applicable To file taxes electronically on a married-filing-joint tax return, both spouses must be present to sign the required forms.
