Dickey's Barbecue Pit opens on Grand Forks AFB Published Jan. 22, 2013 By Airman 1st Class Ashley N. Taylor 319th Air Base Wing Public Affairs GRAND FORKS AIR FORCE BASE, N. D. -- Patrons here have a new place to enjoy lunch thanks to Dickey's Barbecue Pit, which opened Jan. 22 in the Base Exchange. Owner Josh Becker, a former Air Force captain, runs Dickey's Barbecue Pit in the city of Grand Forks. He's opened the on-base eatery on an initial 90-day contract with the Army and Air Force Exchange Service to expand food choices for the Airmen. He said since many Airmen travel through the South at some point in their careers, he believes, "Southern cuisine on an air base would be a good thing." The restaurant offers a modified version of its downtown menu: on-base patrons can choose from three meats and five side dishes. The restaurant will be open from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday. "Overall it's been a successful first day. We had a few hitches as expected, but we'll get better every day," said Becker. "We're looking forward to working with the base; it has definitely been worth our time coming out here."
