Stay Informed on Local Flood Conditions Published April 30, 2013 By Tim Flack 319th Air Base Wing Public Affairs GRAND FORKS AIR FORCE BASE, N.D. -- Emergency Management officials here are continuing to remind the military community to stay safe during this year's flood season. One useful tool is the following website, which contains the most up-to-date information on water levels and road closings throughout the state: http://www.grandforksgov.com/gfgov/home.nsf/Pages/Flood+Fight. Conditions can rapidly change, as they did in Minto, a small town just northeast of the base, when the river there flooded its banks Monday and forced the closure of Highway 81. Keeping that in mind, base officials are warning residents to allow for extra time for travel in the next few weeks. They also warn about taking extra caution when driving at night. "Some rural roads have been washed out and could have large cuts or holes in them," according to Master Sgt. John Grollimund, 319th Civil Engineer Squadron's Readiness and Emergency Management Flight superintendent. "Drive with caution. It only takes 1 inch of moving water to wash a vehicle away." If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to contact the Grand Forks AFB Emergency Management Office at 747-4456.
