The brisk morning of September 15 welcomed the official ribbon cutting of the newly renovated Security Forces Alert Facility here.

The $2.6 million renovation began on August 5, 2013, which replaced the former 40-year-old facility.

The facility provides dormitory-like living quarters for 319th Security Forces Squadron members during their time on station. The 319th SFS Defenders travel nearly 1.5 hours from Grand Forks Air Force Base to Cavalier AFS to provide 24/7 protection of the radar, assets, and personnel. Their time here requires a rigorous four-day, 24-hour rotation with 12-hour shifts.

Lt. Col. Michelle Kneupper, 10th Space Warning Squadron commander,  explained, "ensuring they have adequate quarters to obtain rest and relaxation during their time here is critical to mission success, and we are happy to provide them with a new facility."

Kneupper and Airman 1st Class Craig Bellamy, 319th Security Forces Security Response Team Member, cut the ribbon in the presence of the 21st Space Wing Commander and Command Chief, and the 391th's Vice Commander, Mission Support Group Commander, Security Forces Squadron Commander, and Command Chief.

The security forces Airmen work hard and it is clear they are enjoying the new facility.  Senior Airman Christopher Hicks described the newly renovated facility by saying, "they are beyond nice.  These are probably the best dorms I've had in my entire Air Force career."
