GF Herald provides base with newspaper Published May 31, 2007 By Staff Reports 319th Air Refueling Wing Public Affairs GRAND FORKS AIR FORCE BASE, N.D. -- Base residents will again have a hard-copy newspaper intended just for them - The Northern Sentinel - produced by the Grand Forks Herald. The Northern Sentinel, set to hit the streets starting June 15 for a three-month trial period, will contain news and information about the base and local community. If the paper's well received by the base community, production will continue beyond the trial period. "We hope The Northern Sentinel serves as a resource for people to get to know more about each other, the base, the community and more about the sales and specials offered by local businesses," said Dave Austin, Grand Forks Herald advertising director. In addition to news and feature articles, people can expect free classified ads and a lot of information about base events and Services' activities. In fact, some of the content will be pulled directly from the base's public Web site. Having a tangible newspaper will work hand-in-hand with the base's electronic newsletter, the Leader Online. "We're basically tag-teaming the readers," said Capt. Mike Chillstrom, base public affairs officer. "When we went to the Leader Online in January, we really boosted the traffic on our base's public Web site, which is great for those who like getting news on the internet. Now, with the Grand Forks Herald starting The Northern Sentinel, we're reconnecting with readers who like a traditional newspaper." The Northern Sentinel will be distributed throughout base housing and be available at numerous racks across the base. For free classified ads, Air Force members can send an email to sentinel@gfherald.com or call 780-1150.
