After nine months of construction and renovations, the Army and Air Force Exchange Services held a grand re-opening of the Grand Forks Air Force Base Base Exchange Nov. 17.

AAFES said they invested a total of $4 million into the project.

"The renovations include the walls, ceilings, floors, lights and some cosmetic changes too," said Patricia Fields, the store manager of the Grand Forks AFB BX. "In addition to the surface changes, we have expanded our Power Zone, house wares, appliances, automotive and toy departments as well."

Along with the expansion of the departments inside of the store, a firearms counter was added.

"The addition of the firearms counter makes us firearms store number 18 in AAFES," said Mrs. Fields. "Our firearms counter includes a wide selection of weapons, ammunition and bags to carry the firearms."

AAFES also announced that GNC will be added to the new mall area early in 2011.

"This BX is an example of what we have been doing at Grand Forks," said Col. Don Shaffer, 319th Air Refueling Wing commander. "We have been improving our facilities to make them better and more attractive to improve the quality of life for the Airmen here."

The grand re-opening featured product demonstrations, free giveaways and prize drawings.

"We are thrilled to be sharing this re-opening with our community," said Kathi Zeller, general manager of Minot AFB BX and emcee of the event.
