AMC selects Burns as top Reserve Security Forces NCO of 2011 Published Dec. 9, 2011 ROBINS AIR FORCE BASE, Ga. -- Tech Sgt Paul Burns was chosen as the Air Mobility Command Outstanding Security Forces Air Reserve Component Noncommissioned Officer of the Year for 2011. He will represent the 319th Air Base Wing and Air Mobility Command at the Air Force level. Burns is the Individual Mobilization Augmentee NCOIC of Security Forces Investigations at Grand Forks Air Force Base, N.D. He is also a police sergeant with the Minot, N.D., police department. He enlisted in the Air Force in 1986, served in the North Dakota Air and National Guard from 1992 to 1999, and became an IMA in 1999 when he joined the 319th ABW. Burns won this award for his military and community service. Supervising a 77-member security forces element at Joint Base Balad, Iraq, he managed patrols and entry control points to guarantee force protection for coalition forces. He also responded to 20 indirect fire attacks, putting himself in danger to establish cordons and preserve lives. Burn's community service was impressive, especially during the 2011 flood. He collected food from restocked Minot food pantries that benefited 41,000 residents. He also led evacuation efforts for 15 families. His own family lost its home and is currently living in a motel until their new home is completed in early 2012. He annually spearheads his "Shop with a Cop" program that raises money, and then gathers police officers to shop with needy children. Last year he raised $9,000. His volunteer work with Special Olympics rounds out the many ways he serves his community.
