The Air Force Office of Special Investigation is putting a new tool to work to combat crime.

Agents here have activated a new hotline - 747-2746 (747-CRIM) - to allow people to anonymously report suspected illegal activities.

Callers can leave as much or as little detail as they desire, although detailed information is encouraged if possible, said Special Agent Randy Kitzmiller, with Air Force OSI Detachment 320.

Calls placed from cell phones are automatically anonymous, he explained. Calls from landlines, however, register a caller ID number. Those remaining to wish anonymous should use cell phones, Kitzmiller said.

The Office of Special Investigations is the Air Force's only federal investigative agency and works to investigate felony level crimes.

Callers with information regarding counterintelligence concerns should still use 747-3937 (747-EYES).
