Ever wonder if there could be other uses for technology aside from what it was initially designed for?

Come May 4 from noon - 4 p.m. for a Technology Petting Zoo at the base library; what attendees can learn new uses for common electronics, such as turning an old cell phone into a security camera, or directions and uses for macro programs and features.

Students from Lake Region's Computer Science Introduction Course will display their work at the library and the library staff will be on hand to answer any questions regarding Air Force Library Digital Services.

Other activities that the event will cover is a discussion and demonstration on open source software; ways to create a button that works like a keyboard paste "hot-key"; taking an E-Reader and turning it into a tablet; a Linux discussion and demonstration; proper uses of a laptop DVR (digital video recorders) and a how to make a "desk in your pocket" with a USB (universal serial bus) drive project.

With all these displays showing what the technology world has to offer, students who attend can leave with a better understanding of ways they can utilize technology to their benefit, even if the said technology was meant for a different purpose.
