Base officials hosted the first base tour of the season on April 26, treating a group of elementary school students to an up-close look at Air Force life.

The 319th Air Base Wing Public Affairs Office coordinates the free weekly tours from March through October.

Twenty-eight 5th- and 6th-graders and four adult chaperones from St. Joseph's Catholic School in Devils Lake, N.D., were the first to register for a tour this year.

"Oh, it was such a nice and enjoyable visit," said chaperone Leslie Wentz. "The kids had so much fun meeting with the service members and taking photos."

Tours usually include visits to the fire department, air traffic control tower and the Security Forces Squadron for a military working dog demonstration. Weather permitting, each tour concludes with a visit to the aircraft and other military equipment on display in the outdoor museum located near the main gate.

Twelve-year-old Jadyn Krayhler was impressed with the training the Airmen were undergoing in the air traffic control tower.

"The simulator was awesome," said Jadyn. It looked like they were playing a huge video game."

Groups interested in reserving a tour can find all the required forms - and additional details - on www.grandforks.af.mil. The tour information is located under the Community Links section.
