Grand Forks Air Force Base officials have closed the Child Development Center and Youth Programs January 10 and 11, 2019, out of abundance of caution due to an increase of gastrointestinal illness.

"Our people are our most valuable asset," Col. Benjamin Spencer, 319 Air Base Wing commander said. "In order to prevent potential spread of the illness, please stay home with any sick children until they are symptom-free for 48 hours to protect our families and military operations."

During the closure, a deep cleaning and disinfection of the facility will be conducted to reduce potential transmission of the illness.

Symptoms include diarrhea, vomiting and fever. Anyone who exhibits symptoms should immediately contact their supervisor.  If you experience dehydration or your condition worsens, contact your medical provider. The best way to protect you and your family from any illness is to practice vigilant hand washing hygiene.

Medical officials and leadership will reevaluate the situation Sunday evening for Monday operations.  In the interim, do not bring children into the work center during this closure. If you believe your child exhibits any symptoms, please keep them home from school as well.
