The 319th Logistics Readiness Squadron's A-team was defeated by the 319th Mission Support Squadron during the volleyball championship game April 30 at the fitness center here.

Game one started with MSS' Robert Mummert securing the first point. The score was close until a MSS error put LRS ahead, 7-5.

LRS kept the pressure on MSS and finished off the game, 25-15.

Game two of the best-of-three-series saw LRS' Casey Fielder starting off his team's 4-0 lead with a kill.

A failed LRS block gave MSS their first point of the game. Mission Support's Tess Armstrong tied the game, 5-5, with her second unreturned serve. Fielder's spike went wide and gave MSS the advantage, 6-5.

Mission Support held LRS at 6 points until a carry was called. Logistics fought back and tied the score at 11-11. Scott Carpenter, LRS, sent the ball to a hole on the MSS side, and gave LRS the lead again, 12-11.

MSS' Trevor Parson tapped the ball over to tie it back up at, 12-12.
MSS kept their lead to the end, barely, and finished off game two, 25-23.

Tensions were high as game three started. Mummert contributed the first five points for MSS. A tap in by LRS' Andrew Tadych brought the score to 5-2.

Mission support allowed the loggies to come within two points when the score was 9-7, but they quickly started to shut down the LRS team.

Mummert's hard kills bedeviled the loggies and widened the gap, 12-7. Fielder found a cavity in the MSS defense, getting LRS closer, 13-9.

But, Jamie Zimmerman sealed the championship for mission support with a kill, making a score of 15-10.

"They played a good game," said Kevin Campbell, LRS. "We knew they were going to be a challenge. They just ended up being the better team this time."

Despite losing the game, LRS-A held the best record throughout the season, earning them the League Champion trophy.

But, MSS came through in the end as base champs.

"Everybody came together and played great," Mummert remarked. "We had a great team, a great game and a great year."
