The 319th Civil Engineer Squadron was crowned 2008 Softball Champions with a 32-5 intramural softball demolishment of the 319th Communications Squadron July 22.

Bats connected with balls as early as the second inning with the engineers scoring seven runs. They followed it up with 18 runs in the third through solid base hitting and a few long balls from Erik Morgan bring the engineers to a 27-5 lead at the end of three complete innings.

This early scoring effectively put the game out of reach for Comm. Adding insult to injury, CES showed that they were not only an offensive power but a defensive one too - holding CS to only three base hits in the final four innings and converting three double plays throughout the encounter.

Earlier in the day both teams comfortably won their semi-final matches with CES finishing off the 319th Logistics Readiness Squadron 17-5 and Comm blasting the 319th Operations Support Squadron 32-6. LRS managed to secure third place by defeating OSS 10-5.

Awards were presented to all three teams and regular season champion by Col. John Scorsone, 319th Air Refueling Wing Vice Commander.

"I'd like to congratulate all the competitors," said Colonel Scorsone. "A special shout-out goes to the referees and fitness center leaders who organized this great sports program."

The next intramural sports program is Flag Football with letters of intent due to the Fitness Center by Aug. 6 with the coaches meeting set up for 11 a.m. that same day.
