Grand Forks Air Force Base, North Dakota, was awarded the Tree City USA distinction for 2014. Tree City USA is a program through the Arbor Day Foundation that recognizes communities across the country that have a tree board or department (responsible for caring for all the trees on the community’s property), a tree care ordinance, a community forestry program with an annual budget of at least $2 per capita, as well as an Arbor Day Observance or Proclamation.
